1896 Meets 1776: In honor of our nation’s founding, Adelphi offers students, faculty, staff and the community a unique opportunity to learn, engage with events and become involved in this truly historic year.
Throughout this 250th anniversary year, celebratory events will take place around Long Island and New York state to celebrate our nation’s founding.
At nearby Jones Beach over Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekends, you can experience drone shows, historic reenactments, Revolutionary War encampments and period music.
At many historic sites and state parks, a New York state initiative, , will bring the story of the American Revolution to life. Other local events include:
- (Countywide): Ongoing events include Revolutionary War reenactments, lectures, Tri-Spy walking tours and the Drowned Meadow Cottage Museum.
- : Presents “250 Years of Art on Long Island,” exploring the region’s artistic legacy from the Revolutionary era to the present
Many sites are part of the , highlighting the Culper Spy Ring, which includes spots like Setauket and Port Jefferson.
Get a Sneak Peek of Macy’s Fireworks with Will Coss ’17
The fireworks display for the Fourth of July in New York City will be the biggest in Macy’s history. Communications grad Will Coss’17, vice president and head of Macy’s Studios, the creative mastermind behind the epic display as well as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, tested the show in a surprising location—the Mojave Desert.
