The department hopes that “In the Director’s Cut” will evolve into aninternational workshop that brings young international artists to Adelphi towork along with local students. “I think the program is a great opportunityfor Adelphi to train young artists in new media,” says Ross. “It will contributeto the evolution of the form, and arm this new generation with the ability tosay, shout, or sing whatever they want via the options of new media.”“The goal of my work is to have students hone their post-production skillswith the goal of creating a short piece and then promoting that piece throughsocial media,” says Shaheen.
Ross is pioneering yet another digital humanities project that he calls“Shared Roots.” “In simplistic terms it will be a social networking site forancestors,” he says. “People will post the oldest photo they have of a relativeand then take on the persona of that relative to tell their story. Students astheir relative will interact with other students in a similar role.” Ross has moreambitious plans for this initiative, with Adelphi “student-relatives” interactingwith students in foreign countries acting in a similar role. Ross expects the siteto be assembled in the coming months.
