They range in age from 20 to 71 years old, came to Adelphi for graduate study from 20 states and 34 countries beyond our borders, and earned master’s and doctoral degrees in 63 different programs. They are the 941 members of ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s graduate Class of 2026.

With 90 different graduate degree and certificate programs, Adelphi is committed to growing its number of offerings to meet the demands of today’s rapidly changing economy. This summer, the University is opening the doors of its new in New York City with a range of flexible programs for working adults.

The Four Most Popular Graduate Programs

The Master of Social Work program offered by ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s School of Social Work often graduates the largest group of master’s degree recipients. This year was no different, as 183 students received their diplomas at the graduate Commencement ceremony on May 21.

The 67 graduates of the 4+1 Scholar Teacher Education Program (STEP), a five-year combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program that saves students a year of time and tuition, made up the second-largest group. The program, from the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education and Health Sciences, offers tracks in childhood, adolescent, and TESOL education.

The Robert B. Willumstad School of Business graduated the third- and fourth-largest groups of graduates. Sixty-two students earned their MBA this year, while 50 received their MS in Business Analytics.

´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology—the first university-based professional school of psychology—graduated the largest group of doctoral students, 23 in all. Sixteen students received their PhD in clinical psychology, and seven earned their PsyDs in school psychology.

A Global Group of Graduates

Students from 34 countries outside the United States came to Adelphi for their graduate education. The largest group, by far, is from India, with 117 graduates. The 11 students from Vietnam were the second largest group, followed by the 10 graduates from China. The 191 international students in the Class of 2026 also included scholars from as far away as Guyana, Cameroon, Egypt, Turkey, Georgia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

Stateside, the bulk of graduates are from New York and nearby New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Overall, the class included students from 20 states.

Strong U.S. News & World Report Rankings for Graduate Programs

The quality and reputation of Adelphi graduate programs were among the main draws for this year’s graduates. Adelphi programs are annually ranked by . Seven Adelphi programs are included in this year’s list:

“These latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report are a testament to the exceptional caliber of our faculty, the dedication of our students and the profound impact our alumni are making in healthcare and clinical settings,†said Susan Dinan, PhD, ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s interim provost. “The dramatic rise in our health program rankings, which are driven by peer assessment, demonstrates that our commitment to academic innovation and clinical excellence is recognized by our academic peers across the country.â€

Adelphi Grad Programs Arrive in Manhattan

As early as next year, Adelphi will begin graduating students who earn their graduate degrees in New York City at the University’s new . A state-of-the-art, three-floor learning space located in the heart of Midtown at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, the center will offer an initial group of eight graduate programs in in-demand career areas. Students will be able to choose from master’s degree programs in artificial intelligence and machine learning, education, general psychology/human resource concentration, business administration (Flex MBA), social work, and creative writing, as well as doctoral programs in learning sciences and global higher education leadership. Students can also earn graduate certificates in business analytics and human resource management at the Manhattan Center; the academic credits earned are transferable to our master’s degree programs.

Adelphi is making it even easier for working professionals to earn a career-boosting MBA.

Starting this fall, the University’s Robert B. Willumstad School of Business—recognized as a Best Business School by The Princeton Review for eight years running—will begin offering its Flex MBA program at Adelphi’s new Manhattan Center on Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, just steps away from Grand Central Station and easily accessible by subway, bus and commuter train.

The Flex MBA, which can be completed in as little as one year, is designed to meet the schedules of busy, career-minded adults. The program is conveniently presented in a hybrid format, with on-site and online classes held in the evening.

Professionals looking to advance their business career will have three other options at the Manhattan Center starting this fall: graduate certificate programs in business analytics and human resource management, as well as a human resource management concentration in the MA in General Psychology program.

All four programs are also offered at Adelphi’s main campus in Garden City, New York, and are part of a suite of 13 graduate business degree and certificate programs. The Willumstad School is also known for its undergraduate programs and was recently recognized as a Best Undergraduate Business School by Poets&Quants, ranking ahead of all other Long Island institutions.

We spoke with MaryAnne Hyland, PhD, dean of the Willumstad School, to learn more about the programs and the tuition-saving Manhattan Advantage Award scholarships available to Adelphi alumni.

What makes Flex MBA such a flexible option for working professionals?

The Flex MBA program is a 36-credit program that offers many convenient options for students. Students can earn their degree in one year or choose to study part-time in our two-year track. Courses will be in a hybrid format, with some class sessions held in the evening at the Manhattan Center and others conducted online. This setup offers the convenience of online learning with the personalized support and networking associated with in-person classes.

Is the Flex MBA program only for students with a business background?

No, not everyone comes with a business background. We have students with healthcare backgrounds and students with experience in various other fields outside of business, and we help to acclimate them. We provide online modules to help them understand some of the business basics so they’re ready to go once they start the program.

Are the graduate certificate programs flexible too?

We’ll be offering two certificate programs at the Manhattan Center: the business analytics certificate and the human resource management certificate. The courses for those programs fold right into the Flex MBA program. So if a student wants to start out by earning a certificate and then enrolling in the MBA program, they can take these three to four courses, and those credits carry right in. These certificates offer a nice way to test the waters of what it’s like to be in school again and the ability to walk away with a strong credential, even if they don’t want to pursue a full master’s degree.

Adelphi alumni can earn their MBA at the Manhattan Center for only $20,000. How is that possible?

We are really excited to offer this opportunity to Adelphi alumni as a way to kick off the opening of the Manhattan Center. It works by combining two scholarships: our new Manhattan Advantage Award scholarship for $10,000 and our Alumni Award for Graduate Study scholarship, which covers $5,000 per year. If students take two years to complete this program on a part-time basis and they receive $5,000 a year in addition to the $10,000, one-time Manhattan Advantage Award, they can complete their degree for under $20,000, which is quite reasonable for an AACSB-accredited [Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business] program.

How does the Flex MBA program differ from other MBA programs?

We are trying to give students the skills that they need to be successful in today’s workplace. The Flex MBA program, for example, is a relatively new program that focuses on solving business problems. We have problem-solving days built into the program where students come in—outside of their classes—to work in teams on a project for a real company. They do this first without AI to work on their critical thinking skills, and then they use AI so they can see the differences between what they generated as a team and what AI assisted them with. That’s a distinctive feature of our program that we’re very proud of. We think it’s unique, and we get great feedback from our students about it.

It’s also the personalized attention that students really say makes their education special and valuable. When we ask students why they chose Adelphi, they almost always mention that it’s a place where professors know your name. There are small classes, and we have dedicated staff there to assist the students with finding jobs and internships.

What are your hopes for the first year of the Flex MBA program at the Manhattan Center?

I hope that it’s a program where students really thrive. My hope would be that the students who participate in this kickoff year of the program have an excellent learning experience in our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.

´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s innovative MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program is coming to the new, state-of-the-art Manhattan Center in Fall 2026, expanding opportunities for students to advance their careers in tech, engineering, and other in-demand fields impacted by AI.

“A lot of people are looking to upskill and understand how their professionalization can remain relevant in an AI agent workforce,” said Anil Venkatesh, PhD, director of the program and associate professor of mathematics and computer science. “We wanted to offer this program at a place that would be convenient for working professionals, and the Manhattan Center made a lot of sense.”

By expanding this program to the new state-of-the-art facility, located just steps from Grand Central Station at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, Adelphi is making it even easier for students to develop these career-defining skills, network with other forward thinkers, and explore job opportunities.

“We are expecting to see a lot of professionals from diverse job backgrounds who will bring some really interesting perspectives,” Dr. Venkatesh said. “That will only increase the overall engagement of courses.â€

The MS in AI and Machine Learning is just one of the programs in the first wave of 13 graduate and professional offerings coming to the Manhattan Center. Students can choose from degree and certificate programs in business, education, healthcare, psychology, and social work.

A world of career options

The AI program, which launched this year on Adelphi’s Garden City campus, is designed to prepare the first generation of AI professionals for advanced careers in technology, government, healthcare, financial services, logistics, e-commerce, and virtually any other field. Current job titles include AI engineer, machine learning engineer, data scientist, data analyst, and business analyst.

Courses in the master’s degree program combine practical, real-world learning experiences with deep theoretical knowledge that can be applied to AI models—not just now, but as technology evolves.

“Ultimately, the theory of AI is not something that was just invented,” Dr. Venkatesh said. “It has existed for quite some time. And understanding that theory is going to make it so that you can plug and play with whatever new model or paradigm comes along.â€

The program is also built to adapt to new AI careers and applications as they continue to emerge. The program’s seminar, for example, is updated every year with new tools and input from speakers currently working in the industry. And Dr. Venkatesh’s course on artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms is consistently refreshed with the latest cutting-edge algorithms and best engineering practices.

As Dr. Venkatesh said, “We’re both staying up-to-date with contemporary discoveries and innovations and incorporating foundational math and statistics that will be useful no matter where the industry goes.â€

Customizing AI education for different professions

AI isn’t only impacting technology companies and engineering careers. It’s being applied across sectors, including government, healthcare, and financial services.

“We’ve had students who’ve worked in programming-heavy disciplines,” Dr. Venkatesh said. “But we also expect to see folks with backgrounds in statistics as it relates to life sciences and healthcare because AI tools are tremendously valuable in those disciplines.”

To that end, Dr. Venkatesh makes a pointed effort to customize his Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Algorithms course for students’ professional goals.

“When I assign projects, I explicitly invite students to counter-propose a different topic if there’s something specifically suited to their particular professionalization,” he said. “As long as it’s comparably challenging and relevant to the course, I accept the proposal.â€

Students responded enthusiastically to the invitation, proposing and carrying out research projects in healthcare, bioinformatics, sports analytics, financial services, and business analytics.

Thinking ahead to the fall, Dr. Venkatesh looks forward to welcoming the program’s first cohort to the Manhattan Center and continuing to teach as this exciting field evolves.

“The other professors and I who put this program together really love teaching it,†he said. “We’re excited by the format of the course and the type of student that we’re orienting toward. This is some of the most fun teaching we’ve had in a long time.â€

´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s Manhattan Center is coming to New York City with a mission: to prepare career-minded adults for leadership roles in fields the city needs and depends on.

Opening in early summer at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, the Manhattan Center is offering graduate and professional programs in nursing, technology, business, education, social work, human resources and creative writing.

All courses at the conveniently located center are designed to fit the schedule of busy working adults. The 51,000-square-foot space includes smart classrooms, healthcare and science labs, library, computer and STEAM labs, private study spaces, and a student lounge.

Learning will extend beyond the center’s walls, as students can take advantage of ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s connections to nearby Fortune 500 companies, healthcare organizations and community partners for internships, clinical rotations and employment opportunities.

The Manhattan Center will open with these highly sought-after programs that address the city’s workforce needs:

The center will also offer doctoral programs in Learning Sciences and Global Higher Education Leadership during its launch year.

Learn more about these programs—and their value to students and to New York City—from their respective academic leaders:

Accelerated BS in Nursing

Deborah Hunt, PhD ’12

Betty L. Forest Dean, College of Nursing and Public Health

The decision to lead the new Manhattan Center with our Accelerated BS in Nursing program reflects our commitment to health and wellness of populations across the lifespan. The nursing shortage has continued to be cyclical due to myriad factors. Although the outlook in New York has improved, we are still experiencing a shortage that supports the need to prepare a high-caliber pipeline of professional, caring, dedicated RNs. Leveraging our strategic location, students can gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art simulation center and New York City’s diverse clinical settings, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Students will complete their coursework in just 15 months in the heart of New York, taught by expert and compassionate faculty—and the average starting salary for our graduates is over $100,000. The program’s history of exceptional NCLEX performance proves that while the pace is accelerated, the quality of our nursing education and our students remains second to none.

MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Kees Leune, PhD

Associate Professor, Chair, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

ÃÛÑ¿TV’s mission to graduate job-ready students extends into the Manhattan Center. By relocating the existing MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program to the new center, we leverage the depth and the breadth of the best New York City has to offer. The center will be used as a base for expanding industry partnerships and for improving access to this program for students who work in the city during the day but wish to pursue a graduate degree after hours. Adelphi’s Manhattan location is also ideally situated for students traveling by public transportation.

Flex MBA, Advanced Certificate in Business Analytics

Raghida Abdallah Yassine, PhD

Assistant Professor and Academic Director, MBA programs, Robert B. Willumstad School of Business

New York City maintains its status as a worldwide business center, which leads companies to search for employees who demonstrate adaptability, analytical abilities and strong leadership skills in the face of rapidly changing technologies. The Manhattan Center’s graduate business programs provide flexible educational paths that combine essential business skills with analytical and technological expertise. Our Flex MBA and Business Analytics certificate are designed to prepare graduates not just for today’s jobs, but for the future of work.

Master of Social Work (MSW)

Joanne Corbin, PhD

Dean, School of Social Work

The ÃÛÑ¿TV School of Social Work is excited about our move from Brooklyn to the new Manhattan Center in August 2026. This increases accessibility to our program’s course offerings and positions students at the center of one of the nation’s most dynamic social work markets.

The profession of social work continues to be in demand, with positions projected to grow by six percent over the next decade in New York—exceeding the rate for all other occupations. Social workers with a master’s degree in social work (an MSW) may work across diverse settings, including healthcare, behavioral health, mental health, substance abuse and school social work. They have opportunities to work with individuals across the developmental lifespan, from young children to older adults. Employment opportunities span all major segments of the economy—healthcare, education, community services, vocational rehabilitation, nursing and residential care, and government agencies.

Social work’s mission is to improve the conditions of life for individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations. At the ÃÛÑ¿TV School of Social Work, we prepare students to promote social justice and human rights for a diverse society by addressing unmet and emergent needs and by promoting equity in access, information and provision of services. We look forward to inviting new students to join us at the Manhattan Center in achieving this mission.

MA in STEAM Education–Math, Science, Computer Science

Tracy Hogan, PhD

Professor, The School of Education, Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences

In our programs, students will learn creative methods of using art and design concepts to increase learning in STEM classes. ÃÛÑ¿TV has partnered with New York City Public Schools for decades—a relationship that has grown stronger since establishing our STEAM MA teacher preparation program in New York City. As NYC schools—and New York State more broadly—face a persistent shortage of certified teachers in computer science, mathematics and the sciences, our program has responded and is positioned to do even more through our expanded presence and new space in the city. With more than $4 million in grant funding through the , Adelphi supports and prepares teacher candidates entering the program, while also offering traditional certification pathways and a non-certification MA. What makes our Manhattan-based model distinctive is its integration of collaborative spaces like and our new makerspace, which bring educators, researchers and community partners together around research-supported STEAM teaching and learning.

MFA in Creative Writing

René Steinke

Professor, Department of English, and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing Program

The Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program offers week-long intensive residencies and semester-long creative mentorships with faculty who are award-winning, acclaimed authors and devoted teachers. The residencies are held at the Manhattan Center, offering students a chance to explore the literary richness of the city. At each residency, MFA students meet with authors, editors, literary agents and representatives from the many literary nonprofits that sustain the cultural life of New York City. The residency, which precedes each semester, is the anchor for the curriculum and a crucial part of the program’s design. The hybrid nature of a low-residency MFA program is one of its major draws for our students, and it’s where a lively community of writers thrives. Many of our students work full-time in their professions, but have decided they want to be part of an academic program that helps them to seriously pursue their goals for writing. Until now, residencies have been housed at the Center for Fiction in Brooklyn, and the student responses to the curriculum and to the residency experience have been overwhelmingly positive.

We offer concentrations in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction, with workshops that culminate in the final course, when students complete a book-length manuscript. Our program focuses intently on craft, with an emphasis on revision and close reading.

MA in General Psychology–HR Management

Errol Rodriguez, PhD

Assistant Dean, Director of Master’s Degree Programs in General Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology

We decided to bring the master’s degree program in general psychology with a concentration in human resource management to the new Manhattan Center to participate in the evolution of work and to promote all that we have learned about psychology and wellness in the workplace. It is clear, given the high demand in industries and sectors, as well as the influence of AI, that work is rapidly changing. New York, being the epicenter of work and the hustle and bustle of city life, is prime real estate for our flagship program training psychologically skilled HR professionals. The program draws on expertise from our renowned faculty in psychology and business, with the goal of translating psychological principles and concepts into business applications. By training with us in the heart of the city, we aim to influence both current and aspiring human resource professionals. Using psychology as the foundational anchor of the training, we believe our graduates will lead with empathy, hire with vision, and have a unique voice in the transformation of work life in New York City and globally.

The University is embarking on a comprehensive modernization initiative, targeting everything from physical infrastructure to digital learning environments. This strategic overhaul includes renovating athletic fields, a specialized computer science lab for students, boosting the institution’s data center capacity and learning management software.

A significant portion of the project will concentrate on ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s Hagedorn Hall of Enterprise and the Science Building. These facilities are slated for essential technical upgrades, including new windows, high-efficiency HVAC systems and chilled water plants. The project also addresses a backlog of deferred maintenance to ensure the long-term integrity of campus buildings and utilities.

“We’ve entered a transformative era for Adelphi. By leveraging our robust endowment returns and the advantage of current low interest rates, we are prioritizing high-impact strategic investments that would otherwise be out of reach,†said Michael Rhattigan, ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s vice president of finance. “This is an investment in ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s excellence that will yield significant dividends for our students and community for years to come.â€

The Town of Hempstead Local Development Corporation (LDC) on Tuesday, February 3, announced that it approved the sale of up to $125 million in on behalf of Adelphi. The LDC provides low-interest, tax-exempt bonds to not-for-profit, educational institutions, hospitals, civic entities or charitable organizations within the town.

“There is no doubt that the sale of these new bonds will benefit ÃÛÑ¿TV, its students and have a positive impact on the economics of the surrounding communities,†Fred Parola, executive director of the LDC, said in a news release about the.

These campus upgrades ensure that Adelphi students receive an exceptional academic experience. In addition, ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s new long-term lease for the Manhattan Center establishes a vibrant hub for graduate studies, strategic partnerships and expanded career opportunities in New York City.

Strategic Investments for a Stronger Future

The ÃÛÑ¿TV Board of Trustees and executive leadership view both new investments as essential for strengthening the University’s long-term financial health:

“The board viewed this as a necessary and timely window of opportunity. To fulfill our long-term strategic plans, we must be willing to make bold investments that strengthen our foundation,†said Greg Carey, Adelphi trustee and chairman of public finance and global co-head of sports franchise at . “This decision reflects our absolute confidence in ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s trajectory and our commitment to providing a premier environment for higher learning.â€

Adelphi is reaffirming its commitment to strategic growth and modernization following a Standard & Poor’s (S&P) Global Ratings Research Update issued on January 30, 2026. The agency gave the University a long-term bond rating of BBB+.

S&P assigned Adelphi a ‘stable outlook’ and affirmed ´¡»å±ð±ô±è³ó¾±â€™s strong enterprise risk profile, validating the institution’s careful, long-term approach to its financial and academic mission.

“The ‘stable outlook’ designation from S&P Global Ratings gives our students and families peace of mind. It reinforces that Adelphi remains a safe investment and Adelphi is a great place for students to grow, learn and belong to a community that is built to last,†noted Interim President Christopher Storm, PhD.

Adelphi plans to begin the project by March, with most of the work to be conducted during the summers of 2026, 2027 and 2028. The University expects to complete the work in 2029.
